My DD plays flute in the Honors Band at her middle school. Today was the UIL Concert Competition for the district. They got all 1's, Sweepstakes, which is the highest you can get! They were so excited I wish you all could've heard the screams coming from the buses after their director gave them the good news.

Here are my notes from tonights' Christmas Eve sermon, "The Often Overlooked Gift":

Why did Mary go with Joseph? 9 months pregnant and riding on a donkey? Joseph had to go. Back then an Inn was really a campground with a surrounding wall. In the center was likely a well and those who had any money probably had a tent. Not the most private place to deliver a baby. The stable was a cave - much better and more private. God always proides what we need when we need it. These are gifts of Gods' grace. God is present in our lives all the time. He is as near as the air we breathe. Whether we believe or are aware of it or not. Gods' grace is there. Let's try to be aware of His gift in our daily lives.

Witte Museum Field Trip

I chaperoned Sarah's class field trip to the Witte Museum. They had 2 presentations, one on Matter & another on animals. We also had an hour in-between to explore on our own.

We had a pretty busy weekend. One thing was when Dana's gymnastics team performed at Windfest on Saturday. It was a very pretty day.




And Sarah got to hop around too!



By the way, that little bird has flown away. Yeah!

Good Sport

Dana's always wanted to take tennis. Unfortunately it never worked with her gymnastics schedule. Let's face it, when you're already practicing for 12-15 hrs/wk, there's not much room for anything else.

This year she had the chance to play on her middle school tennis team. I let her try, she got on, and now the tennis-gym tango is in full swing. Luckily it's after school and her coach is very flexible, letting her practice with the 8th graders as they practice the only 2 weekdays she doesn't have gym. Of course she will miss some gym for some games, but nothing major. If she can't play one week, we just let her tennis coach know. There are plenty of girls on the team and not everyone will get to play every time anyway.

Here are pictures from her first 2 games. She won the 1st game 4-2 in doubles. She lost the 2nd game 0-6, but she did actually improve. May not make sense, guess you kinda had to be there! ;)

Look what followed us home, Mom!

Well he didn't exactly follow them home, they were already home. I went out last night to tell the girls dinner was ready and found them petting him. Dana was also on her cell phone. She found the phone number for the vet on his rabies tag. Unfortunately the tag is from 2005 and they weren't able to track it.

Any fear I had about them being with a strange dog quickly vanished as he was clearly ready for belly rubs. Any takers? It seems belly rubs are his "gift"! He is very sweet and well trained. He won't come into the house, but he has managed to get 2 paws in and look around. Maybe it's the tile floor?

The girls would love to keep him, but as sweeet as he is, I'm sure someone is missing him! I put up signs last night. If someone can pass my quiz, well then he'll be going back to his house. That will be a happy/sad moment.

Any guesses as to his breed? I'm guessing lab/shepherd.

Busy weekend...

To say this was a busy weekend would be a major understatement.

Friday night was another SAGA skills meet for Sarah in New Braunfels. It didn't start very well because she bent her 2nd toe back and was in a lot of pain. But she was a trooper. She iced it in-between events and did her best. She ended the night with 5 red ribbons (2nd place). BTW, she now has a bruised toe and foot. I'll try to get a picture to post (edit: see bottom of this posting). We got home around 9:30 pm.

Saturday morning Sarah had soccer pictures at 9:30 am. Her Dad tried taping her toe for stability. But the poor kid was in a lot of pain. The Motrin wasn't working. During the game she played back defense. I felt so sorry for her - hobbling around trying to get to the ball. She did get in some great kicks. Good thing her right foot is in good shape!

Saturday night was Dana's gym meet in Austin. We left early and met her team for an early dinner at Red Robin. The meet went really well and the girls had a great time. Dana got 8's on Beam, Floor, and Vault. Just nevermind about Bars ~ LOL! We got home around 11:30 pm.

At the end of the competition the girls had fun dancing. They did the Electric Stomp (ok I don't reallyl know what it's called, so we'll call it this for now) and the Macarena. Even their coach, Sandee, joined in the fun!

Sunday I slept in until 10:05 am!!! I did manage to get the pile of clothes in Sarah's room hung up. That was my main goal and I'm feeling much better about mself as a Mom now! Hubby took down our deck in the back to make way for the bricked patio we'll be putting in. Dang it, I should have gotten a before picture. Oh well. Here's how it looks now:

Here's her foot. It may be difficult to see, but there's bruising between the 1st and 2nd knuckles on her 2nd toe and on the top of her toe. No really, it's there!
